Books and Knowledge

From Science comes mankind’s knowledge. Knowledge can be preserved now on digital media, but for centuries, books have been the most beautiful tools to gather and share knowledge, stories, and more. While encyclopedias have been already surpassed by the electronic data repositories, we can still take a book – an actual paper one – and enjoy reading it at a park, a library, in school, public transportation, among other places.

Here, a few of my reading suggestions:

The Associated Press Stylebook

If you are a writer or want to be a writer, you need to know what the best practices and the conventions are. You might want to deviate, but having a guide is key. This has been a very useful book in my life.

Permission Marketing – Seth Godin

I met Seth while we were both at Yahoo! His vision of non-intrusive advertising is a concept that I still today value, especially on content or service-driven sites. Great marketing resource!

Business Model Generation – Alexander Osterwalder

Business Planning can be difficult, especially for the novice. Through the Business Model Canvas, this book shows hot to make it easy. It has been a great aid in my seminars.

The Secret – Rhonda Byrne

This book shows how to have the right mindset to reach your goals and get from life and people what you expect. Not based on science, it is still a great resource for those that want to have a Million Dollar Mindset.

How to Win Friends and Influence People – Dale Carnegie

Dale Carnegie did a good job with this book. It is the perfect example of how to get from others what you want by simply having the right attitude. In real world, this is known as Emotional Intelligence.

Steve Jobs – Walter Isaacson

A person needs to be humble to understand and learn from leaders. Leaders are however, not always humble. This biography of Steve Jobs is an entertaining story, but also a life lesson to those of us that have managed to reach the top.

Socialnomics – Eric Qualman

From the guy that markets himself as Equalman! Marketing and Social Networks are based on science, numbers, and the graph theory. Link this to human behavior and you have Social Media Science! Awesome concepts.

Time Travel in Einstein’s Universe – J. Richard Gott

Ever since I got this book, I’ve been fascinated with relativity, the Universe, time, and all those concepts that are hard to understand in our limited minds. This is a scientific treaty on the actual feasibility of time travel, based on our scientific knowledge.

Plus I have so many neat books that I enjoy. I will be updating this page constantly with old reads and reviews, and new books I keep getting.
